Challenge

A quantum computing company, and a former client of Triple Crown, approached us after receiving substantial funding for their project. With tight timelines and limited resources, they sought our expertise to help achieve their engineering objectives. Beyond advancing their quantum computing technology, they also needed support in setting up a fabrication lab from the ground up. Recognizing the need for specialized knowledge, the client turned to us for FPGA design expertise, PCB layout and timing synchronization testing specialists to meet their deliverables for building a quantum computer.

Solution

The Triple Crown team collaborated closely with key members of the client’s engineering team to gain a deep understanding of their challenges and needs. To ensure our solutions were precisely tailored to the client, we then engaged our Chief of Silicon, Jeff Sabuda, in an initial strategy meeting. With a clear grasp of their engineering objectives, we proposed a comprehensive, full-service solution that included assembling and managing a specialized team to handle their PCB layout.

Within weeks Triple Crown deployed the following resources:

  • Three FPGA engineers
  • Two PCB engineers
  • One firmware engineer
  • One UVM specialist
  • Three project managers

Our approach aligned with the client’s preferred engagement model, prioritizing ongoing communication and close collaboration with the team. Program managers conducted regular meetings and established functional milestones to monitor progress targets to ensure the client remained informed at every step.

Beyond delivering technical solutions, our expert engineers also played a pivotal role in mentoring the client’s junior engineers. This mentorship has significantly enhanced the team’s knowledge and skill sets, preparing them to tackle future challenges and drive long-term growth.

Results

Our partnership has played a significant role in helping this client meet ambitious deliverables and navigate their aggressive timelines. Our contributions since the start of our partnership include:

  • Completion of 8 PCB board layouts and ongoing layouts
  • Timing synchronization testing of their original hardware
  • Ongoing FPGA design deliverables
  • Ongoing firmware requirements for RTOS and C++

As we continue to support their cutting-edge work in quantum computing, we remain committed to positioning them for success in a rapidly evolving field. This trusted partnership has led to ongoing opportunities, with our client continuing to rely on our team for critical upcoming projects, demonstrating the success we’ve built together.
